i have known it for years that in meteorology there are many things far from clear. i learned it from honest scientists who were speaking out. now, while studying myself meteorology i began noticing inconsistencies in already the basic explanations of the processes in the atmosphere. for example, the meteorolgy by the textbook is saying that air can hold only certain amount of water because of the relative sizes of the elements in the air, with the excess water squeezed out. it depends also from the temperature – colder air holds less water because it contracts in size. the rising and expanding air, while cooling, is holding less water, but by the previous relative size explanation, because of the expansion of the air, it should be capable of holding even more water. that’s a clear contradiction to the observation, thus the underlying science is wrong. consequently, many predictions of meteorology cannot be right if they don’t understand the underlying physics. and i cannot blame them — water has the major effect on weather and climate but the water itself is somewhat a mystery to science. every once in a while there are new discoveries made about the fundamental properties of water, so i can safely assume we are far from knowing everything about water — there is more to discover — and as a result also far from predicting weather and climate in a distant future.
